Spring Break Wonders

Take advantage of family programming at the Modern over the course of the week while your school-aged children are on Spring Break. Each session is led by a docent and includes a gallery project designed by the education department. Both the tour and project focus on selected works in the Modern’s collection. Registration is not required, but a sign-up sheet is provided at the information desk beginning at 1 pm the day of the program. Attendance is limited; admission is free.

March 10—Modern curator Andrea Karnes is in conversation with Misty Keasler and Allison V. Smith, two artists featured in Framing Desire: Photography and Video. This Tuesday Evenings presentation introduces the exhibition and its premise of photography and video conjuring desire as seen specifically within the work of Keasler and Smith, two artists from within our community.

The Modern is open and free to the public the Monday of Spring Break! While the museum is normally closed on Mondays, on March 9 our doors are open, admission is waived, and children can begin celebrating with the special gallery program Spring Break Wonders.

March 3Jonathan Schipper is a New York–based artist known for large-scale, self-destructing works. Perhaps best known for Slow Inevitable Death of American Muscle, the imperceptibly slow crashing together of two full-sized automobiles over a period of six days that simulates a head-on collision, Schipper is a keen critic of our fast-paced, heedless existence. His methodical deconstruction, and sometimes reconstruction, of daily experience brings our otherwise oblivious existence into sharp focus.
