September 29 – LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs, a poet, sound artist, and author of TwERK (Belladonna, 2013), who contributed to the Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic catalogue, expands on her presentation delivered this June for the 16th Poesiefestival in Berlin.
October 6 – Andria Hickey, Curator at the Public Art Fund where she has curated exhibitions throughout New York City with artists such as Danh Vō, Katharina Grosse, and Oscar Tuazon, discusses curating in the public realm and its relationship to sculpture today.
October 13 – In conjunction with Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic, the Modern screens Sans Soleil, a meditation on the nature of memory in an essay-like format composed of thoughts, images, and scenes from different parts of the world by the artist and filmmaker Chris Marker.
October 20 – Randy Brown, FAIA, in conjunction with the 2015 Fort Worth AIA Design Awards, presents the ideas and work of Randy Brown Architects, based in Omaha, Nebraska, and known for an approach to architecture that meshes modern design with an appreciation for the land and lifestyle of its region.
October 27 – Charles Gaines, a Los Angeles–based artist and longstanding professor at California Institute of the Arts, investigates how rule-based procedures produce meaning. He is currently represented in the Venice Biennale by two major new series that bring texts, drawings, and music together to address issues of social justice. For his lecture, he shares ideas that have informed his long and influential career.
November 3 – Valerie Hegarty, a Brooklyn-based artist who creates paintings, sculptures, and installations that often address themes of memory, place, and history—such as “Alternative Histories,” her 2013 intervention in the period rooms at the Brooklyn Museum—shares her work and experiences in the lecture “Valerie Hegarty: Reverse Archeology, the Creation of Decay and Other Uncanny Transformations.”
November 10 – Lauren Woods, a conceptual artist whose hybrid media projects—film, video and sound installations, public interventions, and site-specific work—engage history as a lens through which to view the sociopolitical nature of the present, shares her work.
