Brooklyn-based artist Jules de Balincourt is known for his expressive, radiantly colored paintings that vary distinctly in style, size, and theme. Through subject matter such as cityscapes and present-day genre scenes, his work often evokes notions of American utopia and dystopia, politics, and various societal groups. De Balincourt works on up to ten paintings at a time without sketches or source materials, and he considers them chapters—symbiotic, yet independent, darting between abstraction and representation.
