In this special program designed for people with hearing loss, participants experience works of art at the Modern through intimate conversation with specially-trained docents and student-ASL interpreters. Two sessions are offered the fourth Tuesday of each month, with limited space for participants at 10 am and 2 pm. Each program lasts 90 minutes and includes a gallery activity. RSVP to 817.840.2118. This free program includes admission to the galleries and all materials.

The Mosaic Quartet Presented in Partnership with Cliburn 180 

San Diego’s hottest new band creatively blends modern and classical music rooted in each member’s extensive training as a concert pianist. These art-pop rockers (aka M4) include frontman Jonathan Belanger, Yamaha-endorsed keyboardist Chetan Tierra, bassist Melissa Creider, and drummer Patrick Knightly. Sundays with the Modern offers unique perspectives on the Museum’s current exhibitions. Artists, art historians, critics, writers, and architects hold conversations and lead tours in the galleries. This special program is free and begins at 1 pm on the first Sunday of selected months.

Learn with local artists as they lead informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This free class is open to adults at all skill levels—just bring a sketchbook and pencils. Registration is not required, but participants should sign in at the information desk.

Two sessions of this free program are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited, so early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.

Docent-led tours in Spanish are offered at 2 pm on the first Sunday of each month, when gallery admission is free. These tours are open to the public and do not require prior arrangements.
Docents are also available to conduct private tours in Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, and American Sign Language when reservations are made at least two weeks in advance.
