Author/screenwriter Carolyn Briggs will attend the 2 pm screening on Sunday, a Q & A will follow.

Prior to and following the screening, Ms. Briggs will be available to sign her memoir, newly released in paperback under the title Higher Ground, which is available for purchase in the Modern Shop.

A triumph at Sundance 2011, Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut, Higher Ground, depicts the landscape of a tight-knit spiritual community thrown off-kilter when one of their own begins to question her faith. Inspired by screenwriter Carolyn S. Briggs’s memoir, This Dark World, the film tells the story of a thoughtful woman’s struggles with belief, love, and trust-in both human relationships and her relationship with God.

The Magnolia at the Modern is an ongoing series featuring critically acclaimed films. Regular show times are Friday at 6 and 8 pm, Saturday at 5 pm, and Sunday at noon, 2 and 4 pm (exceptions are noted). Tickets are $8.50; $6.50 for Modern members. Advance sales begin two hours prior to each show.
