Teen-Artist Project

The Modern’s Teen-Artist Project pairs area high school students with artists as teachers and aims to expand each student’s art practice, introducing new concepts, artists, and media. Each visiting artist leads students through an investigation of modern and contemporary art in the galleries and related projects in the Museum studio. Participants also spend an afternoon visiting museums and galleries throughout the DFW metroplex. The program is comprised of two semesters: fall (August-December) and spring (January-May). Class sessions meet at the Modern from 2 to 5 pm most Sundays each semester. The program is free, and all sophomores, juniors, and seniors who want to learn more about visual art are invited to apply. Fifteen dedicated, hardworking, and creative students will be accepted to participate each semester based on their applications and accompanying materials. Students are required to make a firm commitment to the program and to attend class regularly. Students must also be available several weekends in May during the annual Teen-Artist Project exhibition, which is juried by Museum staff and includes the work of students from both the fall and spring semesters. Applications for the fall 2011 semester will be available online at www.themodern.org Tuesday, February 1 are due Friday, July 15.
