Gary Rough is a Scottish conceptual artist based in New York who represented his homeland in the 2003 Venice Biennale.
The Modern maintains one of the foremost collections of modern and contemporary international art in the central United States. Various movements, themes, and styles are represented, including Abstract Expressionism, Color Field painting, Pop art, and Minimalism, as well as aspects of New Image Painting from the 1970s and beyond, recent developments in abstraction and figurative sculpture, and contemporary movements in photography, video, and digital imagery.
December 2012 is the 10th anniversary of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth’s building designed by Tadao Ando. The Modern will mark the anniversary with a series of new acquisitions on view this fall, culminating in a celebration gala and dinner on December 6, 2012.
Director Marla Price comments, “These are exciting additions to the Modern’s permanent collection. We are acquiring work by important new artists in several cases and increasing our holdings of works by Vernon Fisher, Dan Flavin, Howard Hodgkin, Sol LeWitt, Bruce Nauman, and Nicholas Nixon.”

A collaborative summer program for educators features daylong sessions at The Rachofsky Collection, Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas Museum of Art, Kimbell Art Museum, and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. While deepening their understanding of contemporary and modern art and architecture, participating middle and high school teachers will develop interpretive and instructional strategies for exploring artworks in the classroom and museum galleries.
Incorporating Scandinavian sound artist Leif Inge's mind-bending 9 Beet Stretch as the sound score (Beethoven's 9th symphony stretched to 24 hours with no pitch distortion), a series of special performance events will be scattered throughout the museum building and grounds, with contributing artists offering up works related to the ancient idea of the "Music of the Spheres." During the 24 hours of music, various dancers/companies/artists will come and go, presenting a variety of visual offerings to be surrounded by this extraordinary music.
