FILM SCHEDULE
THE SECRET OF KELLS
“It is only fitting that a movie concerned with the power and beauty of drawing—the almost sacred magic of color and line—should be so gorgeously and intricately drawn.” A.O. Scott, The New York Times. Magic, fantasy, and Celtic mythology come together in a riot of color and detail that dazzle the eyes, in this story about the power of imagination and faith to carry humanity through dark times. The Secret of Kells was a nominee for the 2010 Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film.
NORTH FACE
“This is a film done right by just about every measure. The extremes of the story seep deep into your bones—the beauty, the allure, the desperation and especially the cold in this world where life literally hangs on rope and what Mother Nature chooses to throw at you.” Betsy Sharkey, The Los Angeles Times. Based on a true story, North Face is a suspenseful adventure film about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps.
CRAZY HEART
“The music is terrific, as it should be in a movie where T Bone Burnett wrote the songs with Stephen Bruton.” Ty Burr, Boston Globe. Jeff Bridges and Fort Worth’s T Bone Burnett took home Oscars in this poignant film dedicated to Fort Worth music legend, Stephen Bruton.
THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES
“A deeply rewarding throwback to the unself-conscious days when cinema still strove to be magical, The Secrets in their Eyes is simply mesmerizing.” Jonathan Holland, Variety. A federal justice agent becomes spellbound by and subsequently entangled in the investigation of the crime of a young woman, brutally raped and murdered inside her house in a Buenos Aires neighborhood. This film won the 2010 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
MOTHER AND CHILD
Annette Benning and Naomi Watts star in this compelling drama around three women: a 50-year-old woman, the daughter she gave up for adoption 35 years ago, and an African American woman looking to adopt a child of her own.
