Schedule for Public Education Programs
at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Fall/Winter 2010 Schedule

TOURS

Tours led by Museum-trained docents provide a unique experience based on close viewing and conversation. All tours are free for Modern members and free to the public with admission to the galleries. Groups with special needs are always welcome. For information or to schedule a tour, please contact the tour coordinator at 817.840.2119 or tours@themodern.org.

Public Tours

Docent-led tours are offered Tuesday through Sunday at 2 pm. An additional tour is available at 11 am on Wednesdays and the first Sunday of each month. Public tours focused specifically on current special exhibitions are available at 2 pm on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. These tours do not require prior arrangements and begin in the Museum lobby.

Group Tours

Docents are available to conduct group tours of the permanent collection, special exhibitions, or an introduction to the highlights of both. These tours can accommodate 10 to 120 people and last approximately one hour. Tours must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance of the requested date.

Spanish-language Tours

Docent-led tours in Spanish are offered at 2 pm on the first Sunday of each month, when gallery admission is free. These tours are open to the public and do not require prior arrangements. Docents are also available to conduct private Spanish-language tours when reservations are made at least two weeks in advance.

Architecture Tours

Beginning in October, docents will be available to lead tours of the Modern’s building, designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando. These tours can accommodate 10 to 60 people, last approximately one hour, and must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance of the requested date.

New Tour Program on Sundays

Sundays with the Modern offers unique perspectives on the Museum’s architecture, permanent collection, and special exhibitions. A variety of artists, art historians, critics, writers, and architects hold conversations and lead tours in the galleries. This special program is free with the cost of admission; tours begin at 1 pm. See below for dates and speakers. Note: There is no Sundays with the Modern on holidays.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS

Drawing from the Collection for Children
This exciting gallery program for children between the ages of five and 12 is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the collection. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils or purchase materials in The Modern Shop. Attendance is limited. A sign-up sheet is located at the front desk; early arrival is encouraged.

Wonderful Wednesdays
Wonderful Wednesdays is a program for families led by a docent and includes a gallery project designed by the education department. The tour and project focus on works in the Museum’s collection. Registration is not required, but a sign-up sheet is provided at the front desk the day of the program. Attendance is limited; admission is free.

Teen Program! Thinking about Vernon Fisher...
This program provides an insightful look at the special exhibition for teens ages 12 to 16. The structure of the program includes tours and gallery or studio projects.

Classes are $10 per session. Participants may register for one or all classes at the time of registration. Online registration is available until the registration deadline. Drop-in participants are welcome to register the day of the class, but only if spots are available. Check in is at the front desk.

ADULT PROGRAMS

Friday Afternoon Drawing Studio
The Modern’s popular drawing class is back! Friday Afternoon Drawing Studio leads participants through the fundamentals of drawing using direct observation and visual problem-solving, covering a full range of techniques and materials in relation to the Modern’s permanent collection and special exhibition Vernon Fisher: K-Mart Conceptualism. The class is for all skill levels and for those who wish to participate in an engaging exchange of ideas.

E- Merge: Evening Workshop for Adults
E-Merge is a four-week course led by the collaborative efforts of an artist and an art historian and offers students with different levels of experience an in-depth look at the Modern’s exhibitions. This informative class combines art historical discussion of works in the galleries with short, hands-on studio projects. The E-Merge program will explore concepts presented in the Modern’s fall exhibition lineup, including Vernon Fisher: K-Mart Conceptualism and the permanent collection. E-Merge offers adults a new way of looking at art and the world through the unique perspectives of two engaging instructors.

Join us and become acquainted with the Modern’s collection while developing drawing skills by looking and learning with local artists as they lead informal, basic drawing classes in the galleries. Open to adults at all skill levels. Bring a sketchbook and pencils or purchase materials from The Modern Shop. This class is free to the public. Registration is not required, but participants should sign in at the front desk.

Art Les at the Modern Reading Group
The Modern is proud to host a new reading group! Art Lies at the Modern is open to the public and allows participants to enjoy selections from each new issue of Art Lies-a Texas-based visual arts periodical-augmented by one to two supplementary essays chosen by Museum staff. The next meeting will be Wednesday, October 6 from 6:30-7:30 pm.
