Art Camp

Almost 5: June 3-6
10 am-noon
$90; Modern members $80

We are excited to offer this opportunity to preschoolers for the second year. This camp begins with an orientation on the first day, including a tour of the collection, museum facilities, and grounds. The rest of the week focuses on gallery projects with an artist who leads campers through the works in the Modern's collection. The week concludes with an exhibition of the campers' creations and a reception for family and friends. This camp prepares young children for future camps at the Modern. Parents have the option to remain with their children during the week. Space is limited to 12.

Online registration begins Friday, March 28.

Our popular Art Camp at the Modern is back! Art Camp is for ages 4 to 14, and Summer Art Study is for ages 15 to 17. This year features an extra week and a camp just for preschoolers! Our volunteer program returns as well, and we are accepting applicants 18 and older.

The Modern's unique programs for young artists emphasize learning through direct observation of art and thoughtful activities inspired by works on view. This introduces students to some of the complex and challenging concepts and practices behind modern and contemporary art. Distinguished area artists design and lead art activities based on the art in the galleries. Activities encompass everything from artmaking in the traditional sense to interdisciplinary exploration. This year's Art Camp and Summer Art Study focus heavily on the Modern's permanent collection.

Grouped by age and accompanied by their counselors, art campers spend time in the galleries and on the grounds exploring the art and architecture, followed by time in the museum studio where they work with two artists each session. Instructors provide enriching opportunities to process, apply, and respond to ideas formed in relation to the art on view. The last day of camp ends with a reception and display of the campers' artwork to celebrate their creative accomplishments with family and friends. Campers make exciting discoveries concerning art, the world, and themselves through Art Camp at the Modern.
