Directed by Cameron Yates
Chef Flynn McGarry opened a supper club in the living room of his California home at nine years old, using his classmates as line cooks and serving a seasonal foraged tasting menu to wide-eyed Los Angelenos. As the years pass, Flynn grows both as a chef and teenager, eventually outgrowing his family kitchen and his mother's camera. Featuring over eighteen years of personal archival footage as well as intimate vérité, this portrait is not only the study of a rising star thrown into the media spotlight at an early age, but also a reflection on motherhood and what it means to give up one's own identity in support of a child's passion.
Chef Flynn first premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival before also being selected for the Berlin Film Festival among others including SXSW and HotDocs.
Fortress Presents and the Modern are thrilled to bring you the return of Modern Cinema with Christopher Kelly. From 2004 - 2014, Modern Cinema brought some of the most prestigious titles in film to Fort Worth for their first - and some times only - North Texas screenings.
This year's event will once again bring some of the best films of the year before they are available in theaters. Each screening will be introduced by Kelly, former film and culture critic for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and currently Managing Producer for Entertainment for New Jersey Advance Media. Kelly also frequently covers film related topics for Texas Monthly and his work has appeared in The New York Times, Salon and The Boston Globe.
You can read more about all eight films and view trailers and clips here. Purchasing a pass guarantees entry into all eight screenings as long as the pass holder arrives and claims their seat at least 15 minutes before show time. If pass holders have not claimed a seat at least 15 minutes before the screening is scheduled to begin, we reserve the right to resell that seat.
Pass holders will have priority admission in to all screenings, followed by individual ticket holders. Any reamining seats will then be sold to those waiting in the Rush Line. Advance sales for all screenings will end 2 hours before each screening. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket to attend a screening later than 2 hours before it is scheduled to begin must wait in the rush line.
