Part-Time Retail Sales Associate
Retail Department
Reports to: Retail Manager

This is a part time position working 15-20 hours per week with weekends and late nights required.   Availability needs - Saturday and Sunday (including Sunday evening) with occasional weekdays.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Greet customers and offer product information as needed.
  2. Ability to accurately handle cash, charge, and check, and gift card transactions
  3. Gift wrap purchases.
  4. Prepare end of day till balance.
  5. Follow through on any phone call customer service needs.
  6. Restock store shelves.
  7. Maintain a neat and clean work environment/sales floor.
  8. Check in merchandise as it comes in.
  9. Organize newly received merchandise and back stock in warehouse and receiving area.
  10. Price merchandise and prepare it for the floor.
  11. Notify buyer of inventory needs.
  12. Stay up to date on museum related events to better assist visitors of the museum.


  1. High school education required with college classes helpful.
  2. 2-4 years of related work experience.
  3. Knowledge of commonly used retail concepts, practices and procedures including proficiency with point of sale software and ability to accurately handle cash, charge, check and gift card transactions.
  4. Good customer service skills and the ability to work within a team.
  5. Some knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word is helpful. 
  6. Ability to stand for 8 hours.
  7. Some lifting (20 lbs.), stooping and bending is required to check in merchandise and assist on sales floor.
  8. Basic math skills are required.
  9. Good oral and written communication skills.
  10. Good organizational skills.
  11. Some reporting using POS software is required.
  12. Basic knowledge of the Museum’s mission and collection helpful.
  13. Physical ability to operate phone, computer, fax and other basic office equipment.
