November 18—Jules de Balincourt, the artist featured in the Modern’s exhibition FOCUS: Jules de Balincourt, works from the position of an outsider on paintings of American politics and marginalized communities, both utopian and dystopian, in compositions that explore the shifting relationship between representation and abstraction.

This program for families with young children is led by a docent and includes a gallery project designed by the Modern’s education department. Both the tour and project focus on selected works on view in the galleries. Registration is not required, but attendance is limited. A sign-up sheet is provided at the information desk the day of the program. Admission and supplies are free.
November 11—Eric Fischl, a painter, sculptor, and printmaker featured in Urban Theater: New York Art in the 1980s, gained acclaim in the 1980s with large-scale paintings depicting middle-class American life with themes of adolescent sexuality and voyeurism.

CANCELLED November 4—Fionn Meade is Senior Curator of Cross-Disciplinary Platforms at the Walker Art Center where he is also Acting Head of the Visual Arts Department.
Two sessions of this free program are offered, one for ages 5 to 8 and one for ages 9 to 12. Each session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern’s galleries. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited, so early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.
