Director Kevin Macdonald – whose The Last King of Scotland screened at Modern Cinema in 2006 – serves up perhaps his most gripping thriller yet, based on Meg Rosoff’s prize-winning novel. Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, Hanna) stars as an American teenager vacationing in England when a global war erupts, sending her on a race across a war-ravaged country to reunite with the boy (George MacKay) she loves. Bring your teenagers for a movie that puts a propulsive new spin on such apocalyptic classics as The Hunger Games and The Road Warrior. 101 min.
