BOB of DFW (Black-owned Businesses of DFW) are honoring Black History Month at the Modern with a special screening of Black Barbie: A Documentary. This powerful film chronicles the journey of the filmmaker’s aunt, Beulah Mae Mitchell, who was one of the first Black women at Mattel and spent 45 years working for the company. Black Barbie delves into the cross-section between merchandise, representation, and Black women’s ongoing struggle to elevate their own voices and stories, refusing to be invisible. This richly archival film is a personal exploration that tells a thought-provoking story, as Mitchell and other Black women in the film discuss the absence of Black images and the transformative impact of the arrival of Black Barbie. BOB of DFW hopes this screening will spark conversation, reflection, and a continued commitment to advocating for Black excellence in all industries.

Admission is free and open to the public. Film screening will be held in the Modern's auditorium.
