Descendant, the documentary from Margaret Brown -- short-listed for this year’s Academy Awards -- tells the story of what happened to the descendants of the Clotilda, the last known slave ship to arrive in America. The film is presented in conjunction with The Amon Carter Museum of American Art on the eve of their free lecture on Saturday, June 10 from 1-3:30 pm featuring artists from the Carter’s exhibition Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation including a conversation with Brown and artist Letitia Huckaby. Huckaby’s series Bitter Waters Sweet features individuals represented in the film and a selection of works from the series is on view in Emancipation.
