The Last Picture Show  (Peter Bogdanovich, 1971) An adaptation of Larry McMurtry’s novel and set in a small North Texas town, The Last Picture Show focuses on the coming-of-age stories of Sonny (Timothy Bottoms), Duane (Jeff Bridges), and Jacy (Cybill Shepherd), as the conservative American values of the 1950s begin to crumble into a stark, moody landscape. After directing Corman-produced B-movie sci-fi flick Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women and the shocking thriller Targets, Peter Bogdanovich quickly defined himself as one of the great American film directors with The Last Picture Show, which received eight Academy Award nominations.

This ArthouseFW series explores the direct influence of B-movie master and iconic independent producer Roger Corman on a younger generation of filmmakers whose work would carry on Corman’s innovative spirit to independent film and Hollywood studios alike. The series follows these “students” through the decades, as they adapt Corman’s pioneering sense of filmmaking into definitive careers of their own. Admission is $7; $5 for Reel People and Lone Star Film Society members. Advance purchase is available at lonestarfilmsociety.com.
