A captivating film commissioned by the Fort Worth Tarrant County NAACP, Unlocked Voices stars eight iconic citizens of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, each with remarkable stories that have shaped this area in profound ways. This American story of endurance, strength, and pride is told in its subjects’ own words and their own voices. The documentary features Mattie Peterson Compton, the late Judge L. Clifford Davis, Dr. Opal Lee, Hon. Lorraine C. Miller, Rev. Floyd Moody, Norma Roby, Judge Louis Sturns, and Estella Williams.
Following the screening, there will be a short discussion moderated by Bob Ray Sanders (local journalist and civil rights icon) featuring panelists Robert Eric Wise (film director), Mattie Peterson Compton (featured in film), and Estella Williams (President of Fort Worth Tarrant County NAACP and also featured in film).
Admission is free with registration and is open to the public. This event is sold out. Doors open at 5:45 pm; the screening begins at 6 pm in the Modern’s auditorium. Seating is limited to the first 250 guests.
The Fort Worth Tarrant County NAACP continues to make a strong impact in our community through workshops to educate the public on civic engagement, affordable housing, wealth management, and community health. Voter registration drives are held consistently. Community briefings with prominent local leaders are presented regularly to inform the public on local issues. Educational programs for youth are offered such as the national award winning ACTSO program, college student scholarships, a reading initiative targeting elementary school aged students and the recent partnership to certify high school and college students for emergency preparedness to be FEMA community emergency response team members.
