Modern educators lead a family-oriented project via a short instructional video designed in relation to works in the Modern’s permanent collection.  Click here for the video.

This program for children between the ages of 9 and 12 takes a closer look at the contemporary art in this season's FOCUS exhibition featuring the work of artist Jamal Cyrus. The students spends time in the galleries looking and talking about the work before proceeding to the studio for an art activity and further discussion. Sign up early; space is limited.

Each Drawing from the Collection for Children session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern’s galleries. The April session will be led by artist Nick Bontrager. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited, so early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.

Join us for First Friday at the Modern. We invite you to enjoy an evening of art and music.

The first Friday of each month, the Modern and Café Modern team up to bring you live music from the First Friday House Band, and drink specials and tasty light bites in the museum's Grand Lobby from 5 to 8 pm. Invite friends to enjoy a unique opportunity to experience the Modern in the evening. 

Modern Contemporaries members (The Modern’s Under-Forty Friends!) are invited to join Chief Curator Andrea Karnes for a special look at the Museum’s newest exhibition, Women Painting Women, which she organized. Enjoy a relaxed evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a private, after-hours tour of the show. Members will have the rare opportunity to ask Andrea questions in an informal setting to learn more about the significance of this body of work and how she developed the exhibition.

This event is the culmination of the FOCUS exhibition season, where members of the Director’s Council vote on a new acquisition for the Modern’s permanent collection. Members will have met and heard from three FOCUS artists and seen their work over the course of the season. A benefit of Director’s Council membership is the privilege of voting on this annual acquisition.
