American Piano

  • October 8, 2016 2:00 PM

The concept of the Cliburn at the Modern series, from its inception in 2002, is to celebrate the genius of composers from the United States—those creative masters who, in our day and time, keep classical music going from a distinctively American perspective, unafraid to expand the expectations of the art form. For the piano, this means continuing the direction that Chopin and others pointed to: they push its boundaries, finding new expressive possibilities within the instrument itself. In this special afternoon showcase, six North Texas pianists will perform works written for the piano in the last 20 years by many of those great American composers—with music from William Bolcom, John Corigliano, Jennifer Hidgon, and many more.
