Tempest Trio​

The Tempest Trio will offer a concert of the 3 B’s, but not the usual Bs we have come to expect.  This time in addition to Brahms and Beethoven, the program will include a Trio by Amy Beach composed in 1938 and premiered in 1939. The first American woman to compose a symphony Ms. Beach was a child prodigy on the piano.  Following her marriage, she essentially gave up public performance and dedicated her life to composing.​

The first work on the program is the last work Brahms wrote for the piano trio, Piano Trio, No. 3, Op. 101 in C Major.  The concert closes with Beethoven's Piano Trio, No. 7, Op. 97 in B flat Major "Archduke."  The trio was dedicated to the Archduke Rudolph of Austria, one of Beethoven's truest friends, for a time his pupil, and one of his principal benefactors.  It is still regarded as one of the greatest of all works for this combination of instruments.
