March 8         FUNDAMENTALS
Using the live model as our subject, this session will develop foundational elements for the course: proportion, measurement techniques, gesture drawing, and effective ways of describing form using value.

March 15       LIVE SCALE
Working in the gallery, the model will pose alongside Ron Mueck’s sculptures. This exercise will reveal and exploit the normal interaction between viewer and piece, demonstrating how scale differences inform that experience.

March 22        INTIMACY
Working in the studio with a live model or models, we will explore ways of creating a sense of intimacy, primarily using cropping and scale.

March 29       EXAGGERATION/FORCED PERSPECTIVE
Students will be guided in developing the illusion of relative distance between themselves and the figure model on their picture plane. Exaggerating the proportions of the figure that are closest to the foreground will emphasize the scale of the subject.

April 5             FIGURE AND FABRIC
Students will work with juxtaposition, layering, and the general interrelationships between form and the dynamic properties of textiles.

April 12           TANGIBILITY
This session will focus on the malleability of skin and compression of the form through figure poses that encompass a sense of weight and the pressure of flesh.
