First Friday at the Modern

The first Friday of each month, the Modern and Café Modern team up to bring you live music from the First Friday House Band as well as drink specials and tasty light bites for purchase in the museum's Grand Lobby from 5–8 pm. Invite friends and enjoy a unique opportunity to experience the Modern in the evening.

Café Modern and Executive Chef Jett Mora will be serving a light dining menu in the lobby. Specialty drinks along with beer and wine will be available at the cash bar, with happy hour selections.

Gallery admission is free for everyone on Fridays! A complimentary docent-led, 20-minute tour is available at 6:30 pm.

The ongoing film series, Magnolia at the Modern, offers critically acclaimed films every Friday night.

Ginny Mac Joining First Friday House Band

Hailing from Fort Worth, Ginny Mac is a singer and accordionist playing Country & Western Swing, Americana, Hot Jazz, and International music genres. She will play with the First Friday House Band led by Danny Stone on June 5.

Flora & Form: Printmaking Workshop in the Modern Shop

In conjunction with First Friday on June 5, the Modern Shop and the Museum's Education team will host a printmaking workshop inspired by the special exhibition Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers.

This workshop is free to participate. Visitors have an option to purchase a tote bag from the Modern Shop that can be use to make custom merch inspired by the artwork on view.

Free James Turrell Skyspace Viewing at Keith House After First Friday

After First Friday, Modern members are invited to Keith House, an art destination housing James Turrell’s Come to Good Skyspace. At sunset (around 7:30 pm), the retractable roof opens to expose the sky and color-sequenced lights wash over the interior, creating a stunning, one-of-a-kind art experience.

Visitors describe being pulled into the experience, losing their sense of time, and feeling as though the sky is almost close enough to touch. Sit or lie down on the pews below and contemplate the heavens, as the sky above and the light around you play with your senses and reveal colors you've never seen before.

Keith House is located at 4814 Edwards Ranch Road at the Trail Head, right by Press Cafe. There's plenty of free parking.
