Julia Marshall is Chair of Art Education at San Francisco State University. She holds an EdD from the
University of San Francisco and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin. Julia taught for many years as an artist in the schools in the Bay Area, where she specialized in art integration for elementary, middle, and high school. Julia has given many presentations on contemporary art and art education at National Art Education Association conferences and at symposia in Seoul, South Korea, Taipei, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Athens, Greece. Her primary scholarship is in curriculum development, arts integration, the uses of contemporary art in art education, and the intersection between creativity and cognition. Julia also has written integrated arts curricula based on contemporary art concepts and practices for The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), KQED (San Francisco Public Television) and The Nelson Gallery at The University of California at Davis.
