2.22.15–4.12.15 with Margaret Meehan

Margaret Meehan is the final Teen/Artist Project instructor of the 2014–2015 program. Margaret received her MFA from the University of Washington, and her work deals with images of feral behavior, medical anomalies, and barren landscapes. Innocence collides with the monstrous as her work questions constructions of race, gender, and the erasure of cultural memory.

All of Margaret’s projects for the T/AP students addressed themes and genres found in her own work, including identity and portraiture. The students began this chapter of the program by discussing the concept of the self. They were asked to break down their identity into basic categories that represent memories of personal life.

Students interpreted self-portraiture in a variety of ways, producing collages, exquisite corpse projects, and drawings based on photographs.
