Framing Desire in Music

Sounds Modern presents Framing Desire in Music, a concert of recent works in which composers express their longing, sentimental and magical, for an unattainable and distant reality. The program includes works that celebrate particular people and places – and especially beloved pieces of music that composers refer to (even incorporate), reframing them much as photographs and video reframe and reinforce elements of the visual world.

Our city is rife with musical talent, with a rich history of encouraging young artists. No organization understands that better than the Cliburn, and it is fitting that we launch this year’s Modern series, which celebrates living American composers, with works that were written here in our hometown. Two brilliant composers, who have each chosen to make Fort Worth their home as associate professors at TCU, will showcase their music.
