Sounds Modern: Walk on the Wild Side

Sounds Modern takes a “Walk on the Wild Side” to celebrate the work of David Bates. Bates is a passionate outdoorsman and fisherman, and much of his work has been inspired by nature. Sounds Modern presents recent music that reflects the natural world and its effects on our awareness of sound. The program will feature Eleven Echoes of Autumn by American master George Crumb. Admission is free.

Sundays with the Modern offers unique perspectives on special exhibitions, with artists, curators, art historians, and writers holding conversations in the galleries. This program is free and begins at 1 pm on the first Sunday of selected months. In conjunction with México Inside Out: Themes in Art Since 1990, these special gallery talks feature artists included in the exhibition.

Jacaranda Guitar Ensemble

In conjunction with Mexico: Inside Out: Themes in Art Since 1990, the Jacaranda Guitar Ensemble will play the music of contemporary Mexican composer Ernesto García de León. De Leon from Veracruz, Mexico currently lives in Mexico City where he teaches at UNAM. His improvisational style of writing reflects the spontaneity  in today's world while his musical melodies and rhythms are distinctly Mexican. The program will consist of solos, duos and a guitar quartet.
