Spanish-Language Tour

First Sundays, 2 pm
We welcome visitors from around the world, locals who are more comfortable in their native language, and English speakers who want to brush up on their Spanish-language skills. This public tour is free with gallery admission and starts by the information desk in the Grand Lobby. Admission is half-price on Sunday.

With three weeks’ notice, we can provide a private docent-led tour in Spanish for your group.

Wonderful Wednesdays - Focusing on Disappearing – California, c. 1970

Wonderful Wednesdays is a program for families with young children led by a docent. A gallery project designed by the education department is included. The tour and project focus on a few works in the collection. Registration is not required, but a sign-up sheet is provided at the front desk the day of the program. Attendance is limited; admission is free. 4-4:45 pm

The first Friday of each month, the Modern and Café Modern team up to bring you music and drink specials in the museum's Grand Lobby from 5 to 8 pm. Invite friends to enjoy unique cocktail selections, and the opportunity to dine at the Modern by night. Café Modern offers a full menu in the dining room and lighter fare in the Grand Lobby until 8 pm. A docent-led, 20-minute tour of the galleries is available at 6:30 pm.

This mouthwateringly entertaining film travels the globe to unravel a captivating culinary mystery. General Tso’s chicken is a staple of Chinese-American cooking, and a ubiquitous presence on restaurant menus across the country. But just who was General Tso? And how did his chicken become emblematic of an entire national cuisine? Director Ian Cheney (King Corn, The City Dark) journeys from Shanghai to New York to the American Midwest and beyond to uncover the origins of this iconic dish, turning up surprising revelations and a host of humorous characters along the way.

Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited, so early arrival is encouraged.
