In the Making: Stories from the Collection

In the Making: Stories from the Collection (October 31, 2026-August 15, 2027) is an exhibition exploring modern and contemporary art through the lens of the Modern’s collection. This evolving exhibition will feature ten stories that unfold over the course of its run, tracing various formal and conceptual themes of the past eighty years, including how artists use color, mark-making, materials, the figure, and inspiration from the land. New opportunities to discover, consider, and understand works from our collection invite visitors to contemplate how meaning can change over time, and how art is always in the making.  

In the Making 
Beginning October 2026

Ahead of the 25th Anniversary of Tadao Ando’s building in December 2027, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth announces In the Making, an exhibition and series of programs beginning in Fall 2026. This overarching initiative offers a moment to reflect and look ahead. Fort Worth has grown remarkably over the past quarter-century; the Modern is well-positioned to ask how it can continue to grow alongside this dynamic city and best serve the surrounding community. In the Making will shape the Modern’s exhibition, programming, and engagement in the year ahead. This is a time for us all to reflect, ask questions, and imagine what the museum can become.
