“Up in the Air is a timeless movie that's utterly of its time—a movie of humor, heart and mind.” —Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post
Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) works for a company that specializes in firing people; his work takes him around the country. While traveling, he meets another frequent flyer, Alex (Vera Farmiga), and they strike up a casual relationship, meeting up in various cities when their schedules allow. When newcomer Natalie (Anna Kendrick) challenges the need to conduct layoffs in person, Ryan is forced to take her along on a business trip to show her what he does firsthand. Along the way, Ryan begins to reflect on his lonely life.
The “My Favorite Films” series features tales of romance, humor, suspense, satire, and heroism with films since 1945. These films may hold special memories for you—no matter how many times you see them, they continue to draw you in once more. While many of these films are available through streaming, it's always more fun to see them in the theatre.
