Dark Girls

Dark Girls  (NR, 2012, 72 minutes) This fascinating and controversial film explores the prejudices dark-skinned women face throughout the world. It examines the roots of classism, racism and the lack of self-esteem within a segment of cultures which often lead to self-esteem issues.  The film contains interviews with notable African Americans including Viola Davis. It also reports on a new version of the 1940s black doll experiment by Kenneth and Mamie Clark, which proved that black children had internalized racism by having children select a white or a black doll (they typically chose white) based on questions asked.

Presented by the City of Fort Worth Human Relations Commission, and in partnership with the Modern and the Fort Worth Public Library, Movies That Matter is a free, quarterly film series highlighting different human rights issues.
