In concert with the special exhibition Jenny Saville: The Anatomy of Painting, the Modern is excited to present Framing Movement, in partnership with kNOwBOX dance. This selection of short films delves into themes of embodied painting, reimagining female beauty, connection to art history, physical and virtual realms, and construction and deconstruction of the body.

Welcome to the Modern’s Exhibition Films, a series that showcases the concept of “art in motion” through artist-created films, documentaries about artists, and films that explore themes related to our permanent collection and special exhibitions. At select screenings, attendees can engage in discussions and participate in Q&A sessions; all films are shown in the Museum’s auditorium.

Framing Movement presented by kNOwBOX dance is a film series that celebrates the moving body through the lens of dance and film. Featuring selections from the kNOwBOX dance Film Festival (NBFF) Archive, each monthly screening invites audiences to experience the power of movement on screen—where choreography, cinematography, and storytelling collide. These curated films align with themes explored in current exhibitions at the Modern, offering fresh dimensions of interpretation through embodied performance and visual innovation. Presented in galleries, cinemas, universities, and beyond, NBFF Pop-Up brings dance off the stage and into dialogue with art, space, and community. More than just screenings, these events create immersive encounters with the moving body—challenging perceptions and inspiring conversation.
