kNOwBOX Dance Film Festival Preview

In partnership with kNOwBOX dance, the Modern is excited to present a special kNOwBOX dance Film Festival (NBFF) 2026 USA Preview during First Friday at the Modern. Now in its eighth season, NBFF is an international dance film festival celebrating dance on screen, interdisciplinary collaboration, and cinematic experimentation.
Under the 2026 festival theme, “The Light We Move Toward: When the World Darkens, We Dance,” this free preview invites audiences to experience movement as a pathway toward connection, resilience, vulnerability, and transformation.
These film screenings and performances are free and open to the public.

Program
Group Action: Quartet Rolling
Choreography by Jordan Fuchs
Group Action: Quartet Rolling (2019) is an evocative, physically demanding dance for four performers. Dressed in colorful, pedestrian clothing, the dancers fulfill the task of rolling through the space in a tightly connected group, all to a sound score by Andy Russ.
Dancers: Annalise Boydston, Whitney Geldon, Krysta Ortiz, and Lily Sloan.
Anchor Points
Winner of the 2026 Outstanding Choreographic Vision Award
Anchor Points is a 25-minute documentary-style art film by RUBBERBAND that retraces the trajectory of Victor Quijada from street dancer to contemporary choreographer. Through archival footage and visual effects, the film explores his personal and artistic evolution and introduces the foundational RUBBERBAND Method through the perspectives of company members. Blending documentary storytelling with experimental visuals, Anchor Points offers insight into Quijada’s creative journey and the development of his influential choreographic practice.
The NBFF USA Preview launches the festival’s 2026 North Texas programming, which continues October 3 at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas.
