Oscar Watching Party at the Modern

Presented by WFAA and DFW.com

We’re delighted to report that this year, after 2014’s ice-storm hiatus, our annual Oscars watching party is back on.

We will be welcoming guests to watch the Academy Awards telecast with us on Sunday, February 22. Our emcee for the evening will be WFAA chief meteorologist Pete Delkus.

The fun will begin at 6 pm on Oscar night. It is free, and you don’t need a reservation or a ticket for admission.

If you’re wondering what to wear, anything goes — from jeans to formal wear. But guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite nominees, and if you do, you could win a fabulous prize. (More details on prizes are forthcoming.)

As always, celebrity judges will be on hand to award special prizes to the best Oscar- or movie-inspired costumes. Winners from the 2013 party included some great Abe and Mary Todd Lincolns, a trio of Bond girls, a tipsy pilot (from Flight) and Katniss from The Hunger Games, to name a few.

This year is ripe with possibility — from a winged Birdman or a Wild backpacker a la Reese Witherspoon to period costumes from the likes of Selma, or a quirky ensemble nod to Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Stroll down the red carpet and for celebrity-style photos. Beginning at 7:30 pm, the Oscar broadcast will be shown in the Modern’s auditorium, as well as in Café Modern. We’ll also have a viewing screen in the Modern’s lobby, along with light snacks and drinks available for purchase.

Seating in the museum’s auditorium is first come, first served. Seating in the cafe is unlimited.

Admission is FREE!
