R; 130 minutes
“Rarely does a commercial success contrive to fire on all cylinders as a piece of pure entertainment, and yet to hit a serious theme squarely on the ignition button.” —David Ansen, Newsweek
One of the standout films of the 1990s, this film follows friends Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) on a road trip gone horribly wrong. After Louise kills a man who threatens to rape Thelma, the duo drive toward Mexico in order to escape the police, while a sympathetic cop (Harvey Keitel) tries to talk them out of their plan. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film also features performances by Brad Pitt and Michael Madsen.
The “My Favorite Films” series features tales of romance, humor, suspense, satire, and heroism with films since 1945. These films may hold special memories for you—no matter how many times you see them, they continue to draw you in once more. While many of these films are available through streaming, it's always more fun to see them in the theatre.
