Living Japanese composers navigate similar tensions to those found in Murakami’s artwork: the dangers and delights of both the natural and technological worlds, the reconciliation of tradition with the global marketplace, and the struggle to preserve the unique sensibility of Japanese culture within a modern context. From Joji Yuasa’s pioneering electronic sounds to the cultural challenges of Ken Ueno’s work, Sounds Modern will present a diverse selection of recent Japanese music that sheds light on the context of Murakami’s work.

Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth announces the 15th Annual Modern Dance Festival at the Modern, with this year’s edition inspired by the exhibition Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg, which is currently on display in the galleries.
Bradford’s figures are all generically human yet singular in their execution, as if they tripped out of the brush and landed in unpredictable ways. As a fulcrum to build and drive her storylines, she uses the goofy little things that paint and accidental shapes can do. And hidden in her cavalier brushwork are wise and focused decisions.
