The most up-to-the-minute and least predictable concert music series in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Sounds Modern explores links between contemporary music and visual arts, connecting thematically to exhibits at the Modern . Directed by flutist and modern music guru Elizabeth McNutt, Sounds Modern brings a sonic dimension to the groundbreaking artwork presented at the Modern.

This Spring the Modern is celebrating 20 years of curatorial insight in their exhibition of Recent Acquisitions 2002-2020. Sounds Modern will join in the celebration with repeat performances of music from past concerts connected with artists featured in the current exhibition. As we prepare to “replay” a work, musicians discover new insights and perspectives; in the shared act of performing and listening, our community reinvents the music together. In this concert, we will reconnect some of our favorite pieces of music, and the artwork that inspired Sounds Modern to perform them.

An all-star roster of adventurous North Texas musicians will include Sounds Modern founders Elizabeth McNutt (flute) and Andrew May (violin), pianist Paul Slavens, electronic musicians Stephen Lucas, Aaron Brent and Sarah Ruth Alexander, bassists Steven Heffner and Aaron Gonzalez, percussionist Christopher Teal, violinist Mia Detwiler, violist Kathleen Crabtree, cellist Kourtney Newton, and conductor Joseph Klein. Check back later for program details!

Admission is free and open to the public in the Modern's auditorium.
