AMPLIFY 817 AT THE MODERN

In celebration of our Women Painting Women exhibition, the Modern proudly joins forces with Amplify 817 to present a concert featuring the exciting sounds of two powerful soul/R&B musicians.

Elise Amara
Undeniably influenced by the Motown sound, Elise Amara brings a familiar yet captivating presence to soul/R&B. Growing up as a multi-instrumentalist was no easy task, but it molded her into a soul-stirring singer and songwriter. When Amara takes the stage, she engages her audience with poignant lyrics of love and heartbreak, and her showmanship is unforgettable.

Tatiana “LadyMay” Mayfield 
A jazz/soul vocalist, musician, composer, and educator from Fort Worth, LadyMay has performed in various venues and festivals throughout the US and abroad, earning rave reviews from listeners and musicians in addition to numerous awards. Some highlights of her career include performing with the legendary Cincinnati POPS Orchestra, having a #1 song on the UK Soul Chart, performing and teaching in Zhuhai, China, and receiving a Legend In The Making award at the annual Dr. Marion J. Brooks Living Legends Awards in Fort Worth for her accomplishments in entertainment and education. LadyMay has recorded three albums, From All Directions (2009), A Portrait Of LadyMay (2012), and The Next Chapter (2018). She has a BM in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas and an MM in Jazz Composition from the University of Texas at Arlington. As an educator, Mayfield is an adjunct professor of commercial voice at the University of Texas at Arlington and Dallas College-Cedar Valley Campus in Lancaster, Texas.

Amplify 817
Through the Fort Worth Public Library, Amplify 817 delivers commercial-free, curated music from Fort Worth artists. This gathering place for Fort Worth music lovers and musicians inspires discovery and sharing. Presented in partnership with Hear Fort Worth, and sponsored in part by The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation, Amplify 817 celebrates and showcases music native to the city to be experienced by everyone.

While the Fort Worth music scene can boast many accomplished and award-winning musicians, Amplify 817 nurtures budding artists by bringing their music to light and making it easily accessible to fans around the corner or around the world. The Library and featured artists proudly offer the selected music for free streaming, and Library card-holders can download the featured songs to keep at no cost.
