Dia de los Muertos in the Modern Shop

  • October 2, 2012 10:00 AM

The Modern Shop at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth will celebrate Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos from October 2 through November 4, 2012.

The Day of the Dead honors the lives of those who have died through folk art, food, and festivals. A traditional ofrenda (commemorative altar) will be on display in The Modern Shop. The altar will be decorated with offerings for the returning souls of loved ones, including figurines by Mexican artist Saulo Moreno from the Museum’s collection, and personal memorabilia and belongings. Visitors will enjoy pan de los muertos (bread of the dead) and traditional cempasúchil (marigold) garlands while they shop for decorations, gifts, and jewelry inspired by the day of remembrance.

Visiting The Modern Shop (and Museum lobby) is always free. Parking is available in the Museum lot free of charge. Complimentary gift wrap is available for all purchases.
