6–9 pm

Members: $100 Nonmembers: $140

Led by fiber artist Sarita Westrup, this three-day workshop will highlight ideas of borders, boundaries, and identity, featured in Jaune Quick- to-See Smith: Memory Map. Much like Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Westrup’s artistic practice seeks to interpret the history of this continent, its people, and its borders, through the lens of art history and traditional practice. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in in-depth cultural discussions, tour selected works in the exhibition, and learn contemporary uses of sculptural weaving techniques and painting with natural dyes in the studio. All materials are provided. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Westrup is a craft-based artist and art educator of mixed Mexican descent living in Dallas, Texas. Her sculptural basketry works are rooted in weaving techniques and bricolage and are inspired by her birthplace, the Rio Grande Valley, on the Texas and Mexico border. She received her MFA in Fiber Arts from the University of North Texas in 2012. In 2022 she was accepted into the American Craft Council Emerging Artists Cohort and was selected as the inaugural Artist in Residence at Arts Fort Worth.
