Ellsworth Kelly - Slow Art, Virtual

*This is a virtual event.*

In this installment, we look at three works by Ellsworth Kelly, Red Panel, Dark Green Panel, and Dark Blue Panel, all completed in 1986. Kelly’s work often defies categorization, a fact that pleased him. Are these paintings? Sculpture? Installation? Kelly denied that they represented objects, saying, “They are objects themselves.” Explore the contradictions with a Modern docent.

POSTPONED Kehinde Wiley - Slow Art, Virtual

This virtual event has be postponed.

In Colonel Platoff on his Charger, 2008, painter Kehinde Wiley renders a centuries-old statement of prestige and authority—a man astride a powerful horse—with an insightful, contemporary twist. Wiley re-creates an 1815 image of a Russian Cossack colonel, but he replaces the military leader with a modern Black youth in street clothes. Learn some of what Wiley suggests with such a substitution. Led by a Modern docent.
