Virtual Art 101: From Teen to Teacher, Art and the Next Generation With Artist and Educator Randy Guthmiller

The Modern’s Teen/Artist Project (TAP) is an ongoing program in which regional and national teaching artists expand the knowledge of art, analysis, and techniques for young, aspiring artists. Hear from Randy Guthmiller, a former TAP student, about how his participation in this program shaped his career trajectory and approach to artmaking, which today includes painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and performance.

Toni Sadurní Viñas

As guest curator for this Tuesday Evenings with the Modern program, the artist Stanley Whitney, whose work was featured in the Modern’s exhibition FOCUS: Stanley Whitney in 2017, has invited the director and partner of Galerie Nordenhake in Mexico City, Toni Sadurní Viñas, to give a presentation on his curatorial work. Sadurní Viñas will highlight the dialogue that occurs between the work of the gallery’s artists and the context of Mexico.

Ellsworth Kelly - Slow Art, Virtual

In this installment, we look at three works by Ellsworth Kelly, Red Panel, Dark Green Panel, and Dark Blue Panel, all completed in 1986. Kelly’s work often defies categorization, a fact that pleased him. Are these paintings? Sculpture? Installation? Kelly denied that they represented objects, saying, “They are objects themselves.” Explore the contradictions with a Modern docent.
