6 to 8 pm

Modern Reading serves to expand ideas about the work in the Modern’s galleries by delving into books that relate, directly or indirectly, to special exhibitions or the Museum’s permanent collection. This season features reading recommendations by Robyn O’Neil in conjunction with the exhibition Robyn O’Neil: WE, THE MASSES in hopes of gaining insight into the artist and her work (as well as the general enrichment of the books she has selected). Jerrett Lyday, Humanities Instructor at I. M. Terrell High School, Fort Worth, will lead us through the following book list as we discuss our findings and visit the galleries to discuss possible relationships with O’Neil’s drawings.

This program meets on the third Thursday of each month, beginning November 21, from 6 to 8 pm, in the Modern’s education department lecture room. It is not necessary to attend each month, except when the material is covered over more than a single session. However, participation is limited to the first fifteen people who sign up, so commit early to those sessions in which you are interested. Participants will be notified of acceptance and given further details. There is no fee for participation except the purchase of books and other reading materials. These books are available in the Modern Shop until supplies run out.

Books and schedule:

November 21 – Autobiography of Red, by Anne Carson

January 16 - The World Doesn’t End, by Charles Simic

February 20 – The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, by Carson McCullers

To register, e-mail with “Modern Reading” in the subject line and note the sessions in which you are interested in participating.
