School Tours

All tour requests must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance. Please use the guided or self-guided forms below to request your tour date. 

We welcomes student groups FREE of charge for docent-guided and self-guided tours of the permanent collection, special exhibitions, and the architecture of the museum.  

Title 1 schools are eligible for reimbursement of up to $250 per tour. Funds will be reimbursed to the school after the tour has been completed and a tour evaluation has been received by the Modern. Reimbursement funds for school tours are made possible by a generous grant from the Walton Family Foundation and are available to Title 1 schools on a first-come, first-served basis to be used exclusively for direct costs related to substitute teachers and transportation to and from the Modern.

Docent-Guided School Tours

Docent-led tours are a great way to introduce your students to modern and contemporary art. Museum-trained docents offer dynamic interaction with the works on view, providing insight into the ideas and techniques behind the art. 

  • Docent-guided tours are limited to 10–60 students per hour; one chaperone with every 10 students
  • All tour requests must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance. Please check bus availability, testing dates, and holidays before scheduling a visit.  
  • Tours can focus on the permanent collection, special exhibition, and/or architecture of the museum.  
  • Please select three potential dates for your visit. If those options are unavailable, we will contact you via email to arrange a different date and time.

Self-Guided School Tours

Self-guided tours are offered during regular museum hours. Advance notice is requested to ensure a successful visit. 

  • Tour requests must be submitted at least three weeks in advance. Please check bus availability, testing dates, and holidays before scheduling a visit.  
  • We can accommodate up to 60 students per hour; one chaperone with every 10 students.
  • Participants should honor social distancing protocol with other museum guests and yield to docent tours.
