Sixty years ago, a 23-year-old Texan went to Moscow at the height of the Cold War and came back an American hero and an international icon. The impact of Van Cliburn’s victory at the First International Tchaikovsky Competition cannot be overstated; he disregarded boundaries and brought the world together through excellent music and his signature warmth.
This exceptional assembly of musicians which includes long-time friends of the series, Artistic Director Gary Levinson and Felix Olschofka, violins, and Michael Klotz, viola. They will join together with Columbian-born cellist, Santiago Cañón-Valencia and Cliburn Competition finalist, Elisso Bolkvadze, pianist, in works by Beethoven and a piano quintet by César Franck.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents a major survey of works by Laurie Simmons (American, born 1949), organized by Andrea Karnes, senior curator, with full support of the artist. This exhibition will showcase the artist’s photographs spanning the last four decades, from 1976 to the present, a small selection of sculpture, and two films.
The brothers Díaz, Roberto, viola, and Andrés, cello, will be joined by husband and wife, Gary Levinson, violin, and Baya Kakouberi, piano. It is a great honor to have Roberto and Andrés Díaz return to this series. These stellar musicians will perform works of Mozart, Schumann, and Brahms. Roberto and Andrés are members of the Díaz Trio.
This concert includes Mozart's Duo for Violin and Viola in G Major. This work offers the listener an opportunity to hear the viola on an equal footing with the violin.
