The most recent film from Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast), Belle is his most visually stunning and conceptually amazing work yet. Starting with Suzu, a meek and emotionally wounded high school girl, the film follows her discovery of the online world of U, where you can remake yourself as anything you want. Suzu re-creates herself in the character of a singer named Belle and, freed from her shyness, becomes an international cyber-star. From there, her fame leads her into becoming involved in a Beauty and the Beast-like tale. But her fairytale takes a darker turn as the real world of Suzu and the virtual world of U collide in a surprising way.

PG; 121 minutes; Japanese with English subtitles Friday night, dubbed Sunday afternoon
