This short, 20-minute tour is narrowly focused around a single theme and is the perfect break from the First Friday action of the Grand Lobby. This tour starts by the information desk. Gallery admission is free on Friday.

Color Studies: A Fresh Look at the Modern’s Permanent Collection is a six-week adult evening studio class with artists Brenda Ciardiello and Hector Ramirez.

This six-week class will examine the language of color within the works on view at the museum. Hector Ramirez and Brenda Ciardiello will lead the class through explorations of color as a conceptual idea and use of color in practical painting.

This class is full.

Learn with local artists as they lead informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This free class is open to adults at all skill levels—just bring a sketchbook and pencils. Registration is not required, but participants should sign in at the information desk. The February session will be led by Micah Yarborough.

Modern educators lead a family-oriented project via a short instructional video designed in relation to works in the Modern’s permanent collection.  Click here for the video.

Each Drawing from the Collection for Children session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern’s galleries. The February session will be led by artist Shelby Orr. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited, so early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.

Celebrate the Modern’s twentieth year in its Tadao Ando–designed galleries with an exclusive member preview of the permanent collection installation focused on works acquired since the building’s opening. With works ranging from provocative to contemplative, the exhibition encapsulates the multivalent nature of contemporary art.

Reserved as a benefit to members at the Donor’s Circle level ($2,500) and above, the annual vault tour provides a behind-the-scenes look at collection management at the Modern, including an in-depth tour of the vault, to learn why this facet of museum stewardship is so important.
