Schola Cantorum of Texas

Made in America

Schola has long been dedicated to the performance of music by American composers and arrangers. Made in America features works by William Billings, Aaron Copland, Cecil Fissinger, Moses Hogan, Robert Shaw/Alice Parker, and Randall Thompson. In keeping with Schola's commitment to educational outreach, this concert will be led by Schola associate conductor Cari Earnhart, a graduate student in choral music studies at the University of North Texas.

Sounds Modern

Sounds Modern, directed by new music guru Elizabeth McNutt, presents "At Home with the Modern" in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Modern Art Museum building. The concert program reflects the curatorial sensibility of the Modern's current exhibition, tracing common threads through works of both modern masters (including Elliott Carter, one of our most beloved composers, who passed away last November) and younger innovators, and reveling in the discovery of new acquisitions in our repertoire. Admission is free.

Cathexis with Sally Glass

December 16 marks the last T/AP meeting before we see each other again in 2013. And what a way to end the semester…

Our teen artists had the opportunity to work with the very talented Sally Glass, a CentralTrak Artist in Residence with a background in photography and an art practice that includes recontextualizing everyday objects. In preparation for the day’s project, Sally brought along a supply of ordinary things.

Mark Bradford with Nathan Green

This week’s meeting of T/AP saw a change of pace. For the next four sessions, the teen artists will work with a different artist each class to complete several one-day projects. Our December 9 class was led by the Modern’s Assistant Curator of Education, Nathan Green. Nathan began with a brief lecture about the artist Mark Bradford, then presented an interview with the artist from Art:21, PBS’s award-winning educational series about contemporary artists.
