Drawing from the Collection

Learn with local artists as they lead informal basic drawing classes in the galleries. This free class is open to adults at all skill levels—just bring a sketchbook and pencils. Registration is not required, but participants should sign in at the information desk. The March session will be led by Deedra Baker.

ART Break! Spring Break at the Modern

Join us at the Modern for ART Break 2022!

March 14-18, 11 am - 3 pm

Admission for kids under 18 is free every day. Monday, March 14, and Friday, March 18, it's FREE for ALL at the Modern. 
Complimentary hot dogs and lemonade for kids at Café Modern on Monday! (11 am- 2 pm; while supplies last)

Drawing from the Collection for Children

Each Drawing from the Collection for Children session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern’s galleries. The March session will be led by artist Diane Durant. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited, so early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the information desk.

Jamal Cyrus

Artist Jamal Cyrus, in conjunction with FOCUS: Jamal Cyrus, presents the trajectory of his research-driven approach to artmaking that explores ignored, forgotten, and fragmented accounts of Black American culture.

Jill Magid

In conjunction with FOCUS: Jill Magid, the conceptual artist, writer, and filmmaker Jill Magid discusses her current cross-disciplinary project Tender, which explores the complex relationships between currency and human value.

First Friday Spotlight Tour

This short, 20-minute tour is narrowly focused on a single theme and is the perfect break from the First Friday action of the Grand Lobby.  This month's tour is "A Personal Perspective: New Acquisitions by Two Texas Artists," and will focus on the work of Jammie Holmes and Vincent Valdez  The tour starts at the information desk. Gallery admission is free on Friday.
