We’re delighted to report that this year, after 2014’s ice-storm hiatus, our annual Oscars watching party is back on.

We will be welcoming guests to watch the Academy Awards telecast with us on Sunday, February 22. Our emcee for the evening will be WFAA chief meteorologist Pete Delkus.

The fun will begin at 6 pm on Oscar night. It is free, and you don’t need a reservation or a ticket for admission.

Lone Star (John Sayles, 1996) When Sam Deeds (Chris Cooper) believes he has discovered the body of his brutal predecessor Charlie Wade (Kris Kristofferson), the investigation leads him across the literal and political landscape of West Texas, uncovering stories of violence and corruption in his border town community.

Take a break from the Texas heat and join the Modern and Lone Star Film Society for Modern Kids—Summer Flicks! Share the art of the screen with your children as they watch stories unfold and ideas form in delightful and innovative films. The bonus for seeing these films at the Modern is the opportunity to visit the galleries before or after and experience the wonder of the art as stories unfold and ideas form in paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos throughout the museum. 

Dark Girls  (NR, 2012, 72 minutes) This fascinating and controversial film explores the prejudices dark-skinned women face throughout the world. It examines the roots of classism, racism and the lack of self-esteem within a segment of cultures which often lead to self-esteem issues.  The film contains interviews with notable African Americans including Viola Davis.

Never-before-seen testimony is included in this documentary on Emmett Louis Till, who, in 1955, was brutally murdered after he whistled at a white woman.

National Theatre Live’s thrilling broadcast of Frankenstein returns to cinemas for a limited time, due to unprecedented audience demand.
Directed by Academy Award®-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire,London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony), Frankenstein features Benedict Cumberbatch (12 Years A Slave, Star Trek: Into Darkness) and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Mansfield Park) alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his creation.
